Overview
The Washington West What's Going Ons (WWWGO) is a neighborhood comedy newsletter created by my friend Alex. I offered to create a brand, design system, and website to elevate his newsletter. The result was a fully functional website with a robust CMS that allowed Alex to independently post and edit newsletters with ease.
Accomplishments
Designed a complete brand for the WWWGO newsletter, inspired by Washington Square Park's geometry and classic Philadelphia architecture.
Developed a simple, fun website with a traditional newspaper aesthetic and efficient CMS.
Responsibilities
I was responsible for designing the complete brand and developing the full website for the WWWGO.
Process
I started with the brand design, drawing inspiration from Washington Square Park, which is where the "Washington West" part of the newsletter's name originates. The logo’s geometry reflects the park's layout, with added scalloped edges to give it a touch of elegance. I also selected a deep red shade, reminiscent of classic Philadelphia brickwork, to tie the brand to its local roots.

The website design was guided by the newsletter’s unique tone: taking unserious things very seriously. To play on this theme, I created a traditional newspaper aesthetic, complete with skeuomorphic styles that make each newsletter page feel like a vintage publication. This design choice not only made the website visually engaging but also enhanced the comedic effect by contrasting the content’s humorous nature with a formal presentation.

One of the most important aspects of this project was building a user-friendly CMS. I wanted Alex to have complete control over his content without needing my help for every update. The CMS I built allows him to easily post new newsletters or edit existing ones. I’ve since optimized the CMS to improve his experience, ensuring he can focus on his writing without worrying about technical hurdles.
